The College is thrilled to announce that our Principal, Dr. Jane Overbury, has received an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours List for services to education.

Dr. Overbury, whose commitment to providing young people with an exceptional education has helped the College to secure a number of accolades, was delighted with the award.

"I am both pleased and honoured to have been nominated, especially as the award makes specific reference to services to education. I know that the staff and students at Christ the King will recognise something of themselves in this, as working in education is truly a joint effort."
"I am very proud of what the College has achieved and look forward to even greater success in the future," she said.

In 2004, under Dr. Overbury's leadership, the College was awarded Beacon status, which recognises innovation and excellence within the further education system. The following year Christ the King became one of the first sixth form colleges in the country to be graded "outstanding" by Ofsted.

Dr. Overbury was awarded a doctorate from the Institute of Education for her research into the distinctive nature of sixth form colleges. During her 30 year career she has worked in a range of schools and colleges in South London.

Since becoming Principal of Christ the King in 2003 she has overseen the creation of a new sports centre and initiated the extensive refurbishment of existing facilities.

In September 2009 the College opened Christ the King: St Mary's in Sidcup. As Principal of both institutions, Dr. Overbury works closely with students, staff and parents from each college to support the success of students and to maximise progression opportunities.

Dr. Overbury's work regularly extends beyond the College to support national and regional initiatives. Her work, both past and present, also demonstrates her commitment to developing and raising the profile of Catholic education across London and the South East.

Christ the King's Vice Principal, Mr. Rob McAuliffe, said:

"Jane is very modest about her considerable achievements here at Christ the King and beyond. However, the College continues to go from strength to strength each year and Jane's contribution to this cannot be overestimated."
"The whole community has benefited from her dedication and hard work and we are very fortunate to have her as our Principal. Under Jane's leadership we have built upon the excellent relationship we have with our partner schools, have initiated and developed curriculum changes such as the new Creative and Media diploma, and we have established fruitful, lasting relationships with universities and employers."

Dr. Overbury will receive her award at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace later this year.
