The Youth SVP Programme

Students at Christ the King are encouraged to volunteer in their community through the Youth SVP programme. The programme is run by the College Chaplain under the Society of St Vincent de Paul, a national Christian organisation.

Youth SVP members volunteer in schools, care homes and with a number of community organisations. Student members elect a President to run weekly meetings where they share their experiences and receive support. At the end of the year members have an opportunity to attend the annual Camp Vincent event and receive a certificate for their voluntary work.

For College Chaplain, Deacon Javier Elderfield, volunteering is an important expression of citizenship and an essential component of democracy.

“Volunteering can add a great deal to your life and the lives of those for whom you volunteer. It offers you a chance to become involved in a project or with an organisation you really care about as well as an opportunity to meet new and like-minded people.”
