The Work Shadowing Programme

"I was very pleased with the way my work experience went as I was able to see the many fields within paediatrics. It was very informative and the doctors were incredibly helpful."
Cindy Okoronkwo was placed at University Hospital Lewisham

About Work Shadowing

Work shadowing is when a student is assigned to an individual employee, whom they observe carrying out their normal routine. This enables young people to learn about a position which, due to complexity, safety or security, they cannot undertake. However, in some cases students are given tasks to do under supervision.

What sort of employers offer Work Shadowing?

Our students have undertaken placements in various private, public and voluntary sector organisations including:

CTK students have found work shadowing to be a very worthwhile, even thrilling, opportunity.

“My observation placement was in Physiotherapy. It was interesting, informative, very well organised and brilliant. I now feel more optimistic about university interviews.”
Abolanle Lawal was placed at King's College Hospital
“My time shadowing a barrister and acting as a clerk gave me an important insight into the law profession. Not only will it act as a good point in my personal statement and show my willingness etc. It was also a good life experience, getting up everyday and getting the train into the city. I am glad I did it during the first year so I had less to worry about in the second because doing work experience in your own time is a crucial part of a UCAS application if applying to a university in the Russell group. It was a fun experience and backed up my desire to possible work in law.”
Andrew White undertook his placement at Barristers' Chambers in the City
