Mike Spinks of Crane Business Solutions talks to students
Mike Spinks, recently visited CTK: Emmanuel, engaging students in a highly interactive talk of his journey from school to a successful career in business.
Mike has had a wide variety of experiences. His first full time job saw him join HMV (UK) Limited as an account assistant before moving on to the Department of Transport. The experience he gained at the Department of Transport allowed him to conduct the International Aviation Negotiations on behalf of the UK in South America and the Caribbean and later manage the Virgin Atlantic Security Account at both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. For the last 8 years Mike has worked for Crane Business Solutions as its General Manager.
With such a dynamic career Mike made sure to tell the students about his early working experiences and how when he was 16 he worked part time as a gardener.
The key words in his talk were negotiation and sales. Students were invited to try and sell a stationery item to the participants in order to test their communications skills. Mike explained to the students that negotiation and communication skills will always be vital in their lives as they will 'need to be able to empathise and establish connections with people in order to sell their abilities to future employers.'
He told the students:
It does not matter if you do not have a burning vocation, get into things you like and do not be scared to try new ones. By doing so you will develop confidence in yourself .'
