Donmar Warehouse Workshop: Monday 8th May 2017
Whilst the exams are looming The Performing Arts Department are still indulging in broadening our skills by watching a new directed version of Bertolt Brecht’s play ‘The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui’. Translated by Bruce Norris, directed by Simon Evans and starring Lenny Henry it’s a highly charged political satire-drama, which seems very relevant in our current climate!
This is all part of the Donmar’s schools programme where students get free tickets to their spring/summer season of productions.
Before attending the theatre the A Level Drama students were introduced to the original playwright and the themes within the play by a director, Finn den Huertog in a workshop. This involved the students exploring sections of the original play text and learning about the ways in which Brecht as a theatre practitioner used performance methods to create a political message to his audience.
The performance of the play itself was very interactive and had a lot of relevant connections to the political issues we are facing not Justin our country but across the world!
