CTK’s Health and Social Care Conference

Teaching students and preparing them for life after CTK is something that we take pride in here at CTK across all departments. One of the biggest influences on our student’s career choices in my department over the past 2 years has been the annual Health and Social Care conference held to accommodate students studying Health and Social Care across all three sites.

Each year since my first year here at the college, we have coordinated with the staff from the Health and Social Care departments across all three sites to invite external speakers to the conference to help motivate, guide and inform our students with their career options when applying for university and work experience. Sylvia Harris, the Curriculum Director, Josephine Okolo-Erokwu, the Course Coordinator and the team have worked hard to ensure that the vast majority of these external speakers are our very own Alumni, who are now working in professional roles within the Health and Social Care sector. The programme generally consists of speakers presenting information and advice related to their roles and the path they took to get to that position, followed by a Q&A session for our students to ask each professional questions about their role or their journey.

Having ex – CTK students discuss their experiences and their journey has a huge impact on motivation, developing a positive attitude and enthusiasm towards university applications and effort in lessons. Students are able to take away knowledge gained with a new insight into the potential of their course and current progress.

As the current chair of the subject network meetings, I can confidently say that we are making great progress with plans for this year’s conference! Watch this space…
