BTEC Science students visit Queen’s Mary’s Hospital

BTEC Applied Science students visited the operating theatre in Queen’s Mary’s Hospital on a recent visit.

The Operating theatre was an alien environment for inexperienced learners. However with the support of the friendly and enthusiastic staff we as a team had a great experience.

Students really enjoyed all the sessions. Activities like Laparoscopy, bone-surgery, sealing wound with different machines were just the few among many to mention. Students were reflective of how highest standards healthcare professionals were delivering care. They were encouraged participation in all the activities and all of them were thoroughly engaged. They also learnt to converse with patients under stress in a controlled environment which was stimulating and encouraged a sense of ownership.

All the student were overwhelmed with the activities they carried out in the real environment. Their favorite memories were based on their enjoyment of the day. The visit gave students exposure to the place and career they might not otherwise thought off. Some student were so impressed they also consider pursuing a career as operating department assistant.
