BTEC Level 3 Technical Advanced Diploma
What will I study?
This course gives students a first class grounding in many essential engineering skills as well as an insight into the world of engineering and its many specialist sectors.
Students will use Computer Aided Design Systems to design products and standard computer packages to produce illustrated reports as well as develop independent learning skills. Mandatory units include: Engineering Product Design and Manufacture, Microcontroller Systems for Engineers, Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Engineering Principles. Optional units include: Mechanical Behaviour of Non-Metallic Materials, Welding Technology, Electrical Installation of Hardware and Cables, Computer Aided Design, as well as Electrical Power Distribution and Transmission.
The course has many practical activities and students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
What do I need to study this course?
4 GCSEs (Grade 9-4) including Mathematics or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Engineering (Merit) or equivalent.
How will I be assessed?
The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Students will achieve grades from PPP to D*D*D*. There are seven mandatory units, three of which are externally assessed.
Where will a BTEC Technical Advanced Diploma in Engineering lead me?
This two year full time course is great currency for employers offering engineering technician level apprenticeships in many different engineering areas. The BTEC Technical Advanced Diploma is excellent preparation for a wide range of university courses, including BSc programmes in Maths, Physics and Engineering.
